My journey with Jake began with our 6AM hot hatha yoga classes that developed into a personal training routine over the last couple months. What inspires me most about him is not just the fact that he is so good at what he does technically, but the ability and ease with which he connects with his trainees and creates a positive, inspiring environment. Our sessions typically start with a 15 minute yoga flow warm up and then move into the intense muscle building and cardio exercises. I love the way he incorporates mindfulness and spirituality while still pushing me to my physical limit! “Jake is an incredible yoga teacher! He has a great command and knowledge of the postures and poses, and he is able to demonstrate and explain them perfectly. He makes it so you can modify the flow to your own ability — you can take it relatively easy, or really challenge yourself. Most importantly in my view, he is able to create a positive and healing atmosphere — fun also. I think there’s a spiritual dimension to yoga, and Jake has an easy way of conveying that. I love the way he incorporates tips on mindfulness into his classes. He’s kind of an old soul, yet a young spirit. Jake has the perfect voice for a yoga teacher — calm and strong. “When I first started working with Jake, I wasn’t in a great place mentally or physically. After 9 months of COVID quarantine, I had gone from an active college athlete with a good sleep schedule who exercised daily to a blob that slept strange hours and almost never exercised. Combine this with my first Seattle winter, and I felt isolated, anxious and mildly depressed. My family and I agreed it was time for a change.
I am amazed by the amount of progress I made both physically and mentally in such a short period of time. Jake quickly identified ways that I could feel better, including exercise, sleep, and nutrition. I worked out with Jake twice a week, and he sent me a third workout to do on my own every week. We also talked about strategies for sleeping better, and took small steps to get me to eat better. At first I worked on eating more vegetables every day, and now I am working on getting more protein.
My strength gains with Jake have been great. I went from maxing out at 25 push ups in one set at once to being able to do 45 with better form and greater depth. I have gone from struggling to do more than a few pull ups to repping out multiple sets of over 10. After about 4 months of training, I am able to do 3x the work in one session that I used to be able to.
Jake and I have also become really good friends. During training sessions, we talk about our lives; he has given me life, career and relationship advice. Jake is kind, funny, understanding and just a really good person. Being around him makes you want to work harder while enjoying yourself.
Jake is an excellent trainer, but is also a super special person you’d be lucky to have in your life. Jake will always be in your corner, rooting for what’s best for you. Not only did I find a great trainer who made me stronger, but I made a lifelong friend. Jake is one of the best people I’ve ever met and I cannot recommend him highly enough.”
